Report from Henry Mueller,
OCTOBER 21, 1934
Dear
Friends:
Agha
Dadri-Din preached in Persian this morning. Text: Acts 3, story of Peter and John
healing the cripple at the temple door. Then followed a
Christmas song in Persian which
the Sunday school children have learned
this past week. Nine to twelve in number of
the children attend the hour
for religious instruction daily, that is, after four o'clock
when the
government school is closed. We are not singing Christmas carols at every
service
(tho' we know those best) but the youngsters were over anxious to
have their parents hear
their latest accomplishment namely having memorized another Persian Christmas hymn.
After
the singing I gave a short
exposition of the Prodigal Son in Kurdish. I dwelt more
at length on: The
two petitions of the Prodigal, (1) Father, forgive me. (2) Father
make me.
The
first tells how he got the money, worldly goods, spent it, and all the
tragic consequences
to his own ruin. Secondly, miserable, down and out, a
confessed sinner, in absolute
submission, begging, unworthy, he got all.
Application:
the proud worldly man, and the humble contrite Christian.
After
the service followed the regular Sunday school lesson.
