As you review your financial situation and consider your charitable gifts for the year, there are several gift options that can provide you with important tax savings while furthering LMD's mission to share Christ's love with the Kurdish people..
Here are some suggestions:
1. GIVE CASH
The most popular gift--and the easiest to give--is the simple gift of cash. If you itemize your tax deductions, you can deduct cash gifts up to 50% of your adjusted gross income. Any excess deductions can be carried forward up to five additional tax years.
2. GIVE THROUGH YOUR WILL
Before the new year arrives, review your long-term financial plans, especially your Will. Charitable bequests have become a popular way for many donors to perpetuate their giving. There are several ways to make a charitable bequest:
Leave a specific dollar amount.
Specify a percentage of your estate.
Donate the residue (whatever is left after all other beneficiaries have received their bequests)
3. GIVE APPRECIATED SECURITIES
Capital gains incurred when an asset is sold are taxed according to the asset itself and the holding period. When you make a charitable gift using assets held for longer than 12 months:
You receive a charitable income tax deduction for the full fair market value of the securities you give, up to 30% of your income. Excess deductions can be carried forward for up to five additional tax years.
You eliminate all capital gains taxes on the security you donate.
You can give appreciated real estate and receive the same tax advantages.
